Marshall softball pitcher Caitlyn Jackson will be called upon this weekend to help add-on to Marshall’s current four-game win streak with a doubleheader against Dayton on Sunday. Along with Katie Murphree, Jackson has helped Marshall on the mound this season.

Marshall softball will finish a nine-game homestand against the University of Dayton on Sunday at Dot Hicks Field.

The Herd is on a four-game winning streak after taking a pair of doubleheaders during the week.

On Tuesday, Marshall was able to take two from Ohio after coming back from a 5-0 deficit in the second game to win 7-6.

Marshall (22-22) then came back on Wednesday to take down Wright State in two with great relief pitching performances from Caitlyn Jackson in the first game and Katie Murphree in the second, pitching six innings of no-hit softball.

Murphree has been Marshall's ace this season and has done more than her share from the circle on the field.

The senior is 14-12 on the season with a 2.61 ERA after starting 28 games and pitching 168.2 innings.

While Murphree tries to get outs on the field, she is not opposed to sitting down batters herself, as she has struck out 156 batters on the year.

Murphree has won three of four games on the Herd's latest winning streak and is expected to start at least one game against the Flyers.

With Murphree taking care of business on the mound, freshman third baseman Jazmine Valle has been leading the Herd at the plate.

Valle leads the team in both average, batting .339, and RBI  by knocking in 31.

During the four-game winning streak, Valle has been instrumental in the Herd's offensive output. Valle had an RBI in all four games, and she knocked in four in the second game against Wright State while going 3-3 from the plate.

Dayton is coming to Huntington on a two-game winning streak after taking a doubleheader against Akron on Tuesday.  But for the Flyers, their season has been disappointing, with a record of 15-25-1 on the season.

Dayton, however, is led by Kathleen Maloof who leads the team in average at .347 on the year and also leads the team in doubles with 24.

In the circle, Dayton has Eva Rappe who is 6-6 in 17 starts for the Flyers and posts a 4.19 ERA.

The first game is scheduled  to start at 1 p.m. on Sunday at Dot Hicks Field with a second game to be played afterwards.
