HUNTINGTON, W.Va. — The Marshall University softball team will open its home schedule on Friday, when the Herd faces Kent State (1-9) at 2 p.m. in the Marshall Holiday Inn-vitational, hosted by the Holiday Inn. Cleveland State (7-3) and Delaware (2-6) will also make the trek to Dot Hicks Field for the weekend tournament.

"We are looking forward to playing at home," said head coach Shonda Stanton. "It is a great field of competition."

The Thundering Herd (10-4) will test its stamina on friendly confines after it finished the month of February with a record of 9-1 in neutral site games and 1-3 in away games.

"We are pleased with our three weekends on the road and we look forward to tuning things up before entering conference play," Stanton said.

Marshall looks to continue its hot streak at home, as the Herd recorded a 19-8 record at the Dot in 2009 – including a striking 8-2 tally in its opening home-stand.

Offensively, Melanie Stoehr is tops on the squad with a .405 batting average and a .522 on-base percentage. Marshall continues to dominate the stolen base category, going into the weekend 44-for-49 in stolen base attempts.

The Marshall pitching staff is led by senior Katie Murphree (6-2), who will enter the weekend with a 3.05 ERA and one shutout in 55 innings of work.
