Senior Melanie Stoehr looks to help the Herd softball team get into the swing of things as Marshall hosts Ohio and Wright State this week at Dot Hicks field.

The Marshall University softball team (18-22) will host Ohio University and Wright State at Dot Hicks Field in a set of non-conference mid-week contests.

The Thundering Herd will face Ohio at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. Tuesday and square off against WSU at 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. on Wednesday.

The Herd continues to see offensive production from the duo of Rebecca Gamby and Caitlyn Jackson. Gamby leads the team in batting average (.336), doubles (11) and on-base percentage (.422) while Jackson has a .320 batting average and a team-high 41 hits.

Alianna Telles is riding high on a team-best 10 home runs, 25 runs scored, 28 RBI and a .608 slugging percentage. The sophomore needs just one more long ball to tie for fifth in the Marshall record books for most home runs in a single season.

Series History – Ohio

Against the Bobcats (9-22), the Herd holds a 22-17 advantage in the all-time series. The last time the two teams met was in 2009, with Marshall taking a 3-1 victory.

This season the Bobcats are led at the plate by Shalene Petrich, who has a team-best .347 batting average, 35 hits and 11 RBI. In the circle, Emily Wethington (4-9) and Melissa Bonner (4-6) see the majority of the time for a pitching staff that holds a 3.74 ERA on the year.

Series History – Wright State

Marshall has only met WSU (13-20-1) seven times and holds the series edge at 4-3. The Raiders have six players hitting above the .300 mark and are paced by China Frost who has a .412 batting average and 42 hits.
