From intramural sports to personal training, the Marshall Recreation Center has a lot to offer students this fall.

Full-time tuition includes membership to the MRC, and part-time students may pay the difference in registration based on the number of credit hours they are taking.  Students as well as community members are invited to join.

Members are allowed usage of the facility and group fitness classes, as well as discounted rates on instructional programs, personal training and nutrition consultations.

"The facility in general is really great," said Blair Sigmon, senior communication disorders major from Charleston, W.Va. "I use the rec. center about three times a week and have attended spinning and step classes in the past."

The recreation center offers free classes to MRC members including Cardio Kick, Yoga and Spinning.

"Fall group fitness classes are free," said Michele Muth, assistant director of marketing and membership. "They are included in your membership and different classes are available every day."

Muth said there are also cheap instructional programs for members.

"There is even one that I really like called the C.U.T class. It will kill you for thirty minutes, then you are done for the day," she said.

Strength Spin, Zumba, Belly Dance and Pre/Postnatal Strength & Stretch are some other classes offered at the recreation center.  Intramural games such as table tennis, foosball and soccer start later this fall, and students interested in registering for intramural Frisbee or flag football must do so by Sept. 8, which can be done at www.marshall.athleague.com.

The recreation center is also offering children's classes this fall to help keep Huntington's youth fit.

"What we are really excited about this fall is kid classes," said Muth. "With all of this Jamie Oliver stuff, we have been really trying to get kids in here."

The children's classes include swimming lessons, Zumbatonic, and Kids C.U.T. Parents can get a twenty percent discount for children's classes if they are signed up for a class themselves.

Once the kids are done with their classes, they are shown how to use the workout equipment.

"They actually get certified," Muth said. "Then, when they come in later, they don't have to stay with a parent the whole time."

A full schedule and description of classes and more can be found at www.marshallcampusrec.com.
