First the balloon boy hoax and now this.
After claiming she was abused in 2007 and ultimately sending six people to jail, Megan Williams, from West Virginia, is backtracking her story.
She made it all up.
Her lawyer, Byron Potts, said Williams “is recanting her entire story” because “she wanted to get back at her boyfriend.”
What would make someone think it is alright to send six people to jail just because she was mad? She obviously went through a lot of trouble to make a good case for herself when she was making up this story. She said she had been stabbed in the leg, beaten, sexually assaulted, forced to eat feces and insulted with racial slurs, all of which were untrue and self-inflicted, except the bruises on her face, which came from her then-boyfriend after a fight. She beat herself up and made up these terrible things.
It is not only wrong for her to make up something so serious, but it is unfair to those who have actually experienced such tragedies. People really go through terrible, unimaginable things, so for Williams to make all this up because she was mad is selfish and demeaning.
Williams is trying to fix her mistake, but the damage is already done. The six defendants pleaded quilty to the crimes and were sentenced to terms up to 40 years in prison, but the victim said she feels remorse for that, as she should.
Whatever it was that made Williams snap and decide to make up this story, or potentially make up the story about making up the other story, it was wrong.
