Starting this week, the Student Government Association distributed student discount cards, which allow students in organizations, discounts at restaurants, salons and many different interest spots in Huntington.

This is a great step for Marshall in establishing a growing connection with the city of Huntington and the businesses in the area.

Most of the businesses featured on the card, have many specials that appeal to student customers. This card will help not only the students but also the businesses of Huntington.

Many students focus on being frugal and saving money when they consider budgets for outside interests such as entertainment, food and  hair and nail care.

With this step, Marshall has joined with other universities that have already taken this initiative. At other institutions such as Ohio State, students can use their ID cards at locations across campus for discounts. SGA has a good start, but it needs to continue to include student friendly businesses around the area.

For example, many students shop at the Huntington Mall. Most stores in the Barboursville area have been excluded. However, the only way SGA is going to accomplish this is if interest is shown by a majority of students using their discount cards. SGA has given students a great chance to save money, and students should take full advantage of these cards. With enough interest, SGA will add more businesses.
