If you haven't noticed yet, Marshall University has updated its Web site. It's a lot different from the old one by having a more modern design and advertising the school on a bigger scale than it used to.

Although it's probably going to take some getting use to, especially for the ones who have been here longer, the update is definitely a good thing. Universities should be near the top of the list in things that harbor innovation. Each generation should know a little more than the one before it.

You can see major differences between our parents and us. It's common to chuckle about our moms making Facebook accounts and see family members' bewildered faces when they see some math equation we've been working on or some new Adobe program we've learned.

As individuals, we should always keep this idea of moving forward in mind. That way we can enroll in the majors that are predicted to be most prominent in the future or even make sure to stay one step ahead of our counterparts in history. One example is art. It's always changing. An artist isn't going to get anywhere if they just keep repeating what has been done before.

We need to be aware of the technological changes that are happening every second, but the most important thing is to be open to the change and to be a part of it. We need to walk the walk and talk the talk. It won't just be the things around us that will be changing but how we speak and how we think. Right now, we know more than some of the people who are already working in our fields. We have been learning on the most updated systems and have new ideas and creativity to improve the things that have been done for the past several years. Don't be afraid to use those skills to make those changes that need to be made.

Traditions are always good, but let's not forget there's always a way to do something better. Now is a time to think about those things when we're young and knowledgeable and for most of us don't have major bills or children to take care of. We must use this time wisely to make the world how we want it, not how past generations have made it.

So, go out there and make life faster, easier and more enjoyable for yourself and others. When we graduate, it will be our time to influence and mold future companies, theories and ways of doing daily things.
