Students helping the world by reaching out to others

As Halloween season comes around, it’s easy for students to accept things. Whether it be candy for Halloween, a feast for Thanksgiving we accept food, and we all know the story of Santa and Christmas gifts. But lately it seems more and more, many students have begun to accept the concept of giving.

Students are collecting jeans for Habitat for Humanity, signing up for shoes to help children in countries stricken with poverty and student groups passing out candy to their fellow peers.

It’s great to see students taking time out of their schedules to help those in need, but while these events and causes see regular attendees, they could always use more students to help.

Clubs and events that need volunteers always advertise on campus. But how many of us actually pay attention to their pleas? Usually students ignore the message and continue to their apartments for a night of video games and sleep.

Students need to realize that we are the next generation and our time will soon come when we have to take responsibility for the world around us. Why not take the opportunity now and work to make the world a little better before the burden of major changes are upon us?

And to those students who are helping, thank you, because you are not only giving yourself a good name, but the entire Marshall community.
