A Marshall University alumnus and former Parthenon staff member will hold a book signing April 12.

Adam Dean will host the signing for his book, "Dawn the Alpha Dog and Related Stories" at Borders Express, located in the Charleston Town Center, in Charleston, W.Va.

Dean published the collection of stories in 2007 and has held numerous signings in local bookstores since.

Born with cerebral palsy and the resulting speech impediment and lame right arm, Dean said the book chronicles his life in West Virginia, time at Marshall, disability and experiences on the Internet.

"I wrote the stories in the first person and gave the main character my own name. However, at most, he is just a reflection of who I was and what I was thinking and feeling at the time I wrote the stories," Dean said.

Dean graduated from Marshall in 1997 with high honors and a degree in political science.

Dean went on to West Virginia University's law school, where he said he graduated in the top 10 percent of his class.

Dean now works as a general writ clerk for the West Virginia Supreme Court of Appeals, where his speech impediment constitutes only a small hindrance in his predominantly written work.
