Contemporary Christian music can now be heard over the radio waves in the Huntington area on 94.1 FM.
K-LOVE radio, which is a national radio network, installed a small translator repeater signal tower in Huntington, according to the station. This new tower picks up the K-LOVE signal from the WKVW radio station in Charleston.
Carol Crenshaw, public relations manager for K-LOVE Radio, said the station broadcasts adult contemporary Christian music to more than 63,000 listeners in the Charleston area.
Crenshaw said listeners can hear music from artists like Casting Crowns, MercyMe and Natalie Grant.
WEMM radio, another Christian radio station also can be received in Huntington on 107.9 FM.
A representative from WEMM said the station's music content mostly includes Southern gospel music, preaching and teaching segments throughout the day.
"Our evaluation indicated the Huntington area did not have a contemporary Christian music station similar to K-LOVE, and the area was a natural extension of our WKVW 93.3 Charleston (station)," Crenshaw said.
Jennifer Crittendon, junior education major from Kenova, said the addition of this station is exciting.
"I always listen to K-LOVE over the Internet at work, but now I can listen all day while I'm traveling between places in my car," Crittendon said. "They play a great variety of music that's inspiring and uplifting."
Crenshaw said K-LOVE's programming is headquartered in Rocklin, Calif., and the announcers heard in West Virginia are the same ones across the country. Each city receives community announcements specific to that area.
According to the K-LOVE Web site, one of the unique missions of K-LOVE radio is to pray for the needs of its listeners.
Online prayer requests can be submitted to the station, and the staff pastors pray for the concerns.
Crenshaw said the radio network was established in 1982. It's listener supported and commercial free.
